Sketch-A-Day 58

This was kind of the final look I went with on the Alias page. I finally finished that damn thing today/yesterday. I went with a very basic non-descript archer character that was derived from my early interpretations of Spider, although now he bears pretty much zero resemblance to the original.

I tried to go with what made sense: a covered/protected bow arm and a bare unfettered arrow arm. The pouches? I couldn't help myself, I found one old picture with a few utility patches on his belt so I owned it. I went a little more modern with the bow, not as generic recurve as the original.

that's pretty much it.

can't get any more basic than that

Sketch-A-Day 56

Hey! Ho! Let's Go!

A really great morning- i woke up sore as shit from playing pretty hard last night. Doug and I went through and worked about 8 or 9 Ramones songs for this new fun little project called the Shitty Ramones where we act as a cover/karaoke band for any GabbaGabba punks who wanna sing a classic tune.

I also woke up to an inbox full of new pages- SO awesome! I know that's why modern day comic book writers do it- it's a thrill to see that little paperclip next to the email. Awesome awesome.

I should also be finishing up the Alias the Spider page today- it's been going slow, but the end result will hopefully be worth it.

busy- no time for this crap

Sketch-A-Day 54

still working on pages, so no decent sketches today. I did a Starblast in the older style I used to use...that muscle memory is a funny thing.

fuckin' around with Alias in some WAY too much detail body armor

Sketch-A-Day 52

a new character/concept I'm working on. So far he's called the Mighty Ion. The logo was changed in the ink stage...changed back to my original idea of a molecule looking thing.

a little tiny Starshield in his old jersey shirt look.

Sketch-A-Day 50

it's weird, there seems to be a whole new set of rules to drawing bow & arrow heroes. I've dabbled in it a bit with the Golden Archer , but that's about it.

I'm still grappling with his movements looking anatomically correct...without really drawing anatomy, cause we know I'm not that guy.

Sketch-A-Day 49

working on a couple panel ideas...apparently I've lost all concept of vanishing points.

Sketch-A-Day 48

an updated version of an old golden age hero named Alias the Spider. Possibly the oddest and least nonsensically named hero of all time. He didn't wear a mask, so there was really no "alias," and he was a bow & arrow hero in no way related to spiders.

Sketch-A-Day 47

this is a total cheat...it's from a while back. Nothing drawn today can be shown, I have drawn today and I'm not drawing anything else and then scanning it and then naming it...I'm THAT lazy.

I'm in a writing groove and can't break out of it.

This was drawn based off of Scotty's verbal description of his character MONSTROS during the early stages of his development. His final product is WAY better than this, but this is what I saw in my head when he described it.

Bulletproof Beetle rockin' a jacket shirt and tie...he soon finds out, although dapper, it's just not conducive to crime fighting.

Sketch-A-Day 43

holy crap

SUCH an exhausting day...but so CHOCKED full of awesome that I can't really believe it. I was on the computer pretty much ALL day today. Communicating with collaborators, finishing up stuff, starting new tasks, finalizing deals, seeing some deals coming to fruition, seeing others just start.

A crapload of great emails, the kind of emails that make you get up and show/tell your wife about it. Tons of new info, started another new collaboration relationship, had one from the past pop back up.

busy busy busy...but oh so sweet.

Sketch-A-Day 41

I was working on a new concept today and I needed some help with visual inspiration. I did some studying of Rude and Weeks to help me along the way.

an Amazonian monster that the natives call "the Savage Ones." One of the very monsters responsible for turning a young traveler into KRAGG!

Sketch-A-Day 37

I wanted to do a full body piece of fanart of Scotty's Phantom Ace. I did this this morning, and I'm not really feeling this one now...it feels a little too mattcrap style (too cartoony). We'll see if I like it enough to ink it.

Sketch-A-Day 36

a sloppy sketch of Inspectre loading a shotgun with...himself. A general rule of thumb, ectoplasm works as a suitable replacement when buckshot is unavailable.

Another more finished drawing (again of Bulletproof Beetle) Done in emulation of a Darwyn Cooke piece.

Sketch-A-Day 33

I did this as part of a funny discussion with Bradford about his Robot13 character and some accusations he got about his recent cover.
