falling into some vines in the jungle...hopefully it feels properly weighted and shit. His right hand is gonna angle down more so it's more of a load point.

and no, he's not mutating into an ape...that's just my shitty draftsmanship coming into play again. I'll fix that...and the arm-popping-out-of-shoulder-thing too.

Sketch-A-Day 205

Project Rooftop had a thing on the Phantom, so I started messing around with fucking up a classic look.

Obviously I kind of already have by the looks of a certain stage of Bulletproof Beetle's costume, but I still wanted to do it. I wanted to make some smart design ENHANCEMENTS not drastic changes.

I figure updating the costume for a modern day descendant of Walker would be the right move. I wanted to update for real world tenchnology advances. I figured a secret identity wouldn't last too long if he kept the no gloves look as well as having a new suit out of kevlar weave. I hope that he'd upgrade to some fully automatic pistols mounted on two lower back holsters. The big jump is a bit that goes into unreal technology- a light refracting Predator style camouflage. He trades the classic belt for a control device designed to look like the old belt buckle. He hits the skull buckle and an electric charge courses through the suit, making him invisible...truly a ghost who walks.

Sketch-A-Day 201

two hundred and one, oh fuck me.

I realize that this should be a landmark where I realize the fact that I'm more than half way done...but it's not. This daily drawing shit is just fucking annoying now.

Sketch-A-Day 200

anytime i do a slight 3/4 pose (specifically with an arm back behind the shoulder) I call it the Cory Walker pose! I started to notice it on his first go sketch-a-day go around. He manages to find dynamic ways to pose figures ALL the time and they don't really need to be doing much for him to make them look good.

so the arm-behind-the-shoulder has become a staple of mine, thanks Corenthal.

Sketch-A-Day 192

i was looking at a bunch of Indiana Jones reference (including Beavers run on the comic). I'm having alot of fun dashing in other character's elements into BpB.

I'm not usually one to over-endorse a book on the merits of only it's first issue...but THOR: The Mighty Avenger is just better than everything!

Samnee is always a freakin genius and the book is just good old fun. There's some fisticuffs and then a buncha nice character stuff. Right off the bat, you can feel that it's a different take on Thor and that's a big part of the charm.

so here's the inks after some clean-up. I might kill that thick shape on the left arm...it feels out of balance now. We'll see

Sketch-A-Day 189

I'm experimenting a little by drawing the shadow parts first. That might seem like a no-brainer to most, but for me it's a way of getting my mind around how the shadows work.

Most of the time, I'll draw the drawing and then if I go heavy on the shadows with it, I end up back filling over a bunch of the stuff that I just drew. Doing it this way allows me to go into it knowing what will be spot blacked so i don't waste time filling in detail that's just gonna be covered up.

I'm really proud of this one. I think he feels properly weighted and relaxed (no photo reference this time). A very simple unfinished drawing, but I like it.

Sketch-A-Day 183

We've spent the last 3 days dealing with a water pipe issue in our flooded backyard. It's not sewer water (which is a bonus from last time). But now it's the back and forth about whether it's our line so our responsibility or if it's a matter of the problem being inches closer to the junction thereby making it the city's headache. Our water being shut off while the small lake dries up and then city guys "fixing" and reburying the problem just to have a pond reappear in a few hours.

Liz was knee deep in a hole we had to dig in order to get to the problem...so I put BpB right in there with her.
